Are you the person that makes new year resolutions?  Do you vow to lose weight every new year only to find yourself giving up by the time superbowl rolls around? How about engaging in a 30-day challenge (dry January), and then within the first week you’re pouring yourself a glass (or two) of wine? Or completing the challenge, and then celebrating your success by gorging on the foods and drinks you deprived yourself of? Basically, thwarting any type of positive results. It doesn’t have to be this way if you are on your clean eating journey.

No Need to “Challenge” Yourself!

Don’t sweat it, most people I meet are engaging in a diet mindset that is contrary to the journey that is clean eating.  They’re depriving themselves for a certain period-of-time, only to go back to the habit they’re trying to remedy. If you’re truly clean eating, then you don’t have to diet because one of the benefits of clean eating is weight loss and/or weight stability.  

How about when it comes to the various 30-day challenges (no alcohol, sugar, carbs, fat, meat, etc.)?  You either prove to yourself that you can or cannot complete the challenge, regardless, the likelihood is that you’re going to go right back to the ‘bad habit’.  Why?  Because you’re not LIVING a clean eating lifestyle?

It’s a Journey, Not a Challenge

Clean eating isn’t about deprivation.  It’s about understanding what you’re buying and how those items are either going to help you or hurt you.  It doesn’t happen overnight (or within 30 days).  It first happens with a mindset shift.  You’re moving away from the indoctrination of diets and challenges to the mindset of longevity and quality of life. I call it the ‘journey that is clean eating’.  If you’re desperate to lose weight, then consider the following 3 statements that support mindset shifts:

  1. I want to lose weight and keep it off.
  2. I want to understand what I’m buying.
  3. I want to know where my food comes from.  

If you want to know the answers to those questions, then you’ll start your clean eating journey.  By starting your clean eating journey, you WILL lose weight, and you WILL feel better! All it takes is for you to be a little curious.  How about it? Do you think you can do it?  

Next time you’re at the supermarket, will you seek out better grocery items?  Will you look in your area for farmers markets?  Will you look for health food stores that support local farms?  

If you do, then you’ll reap the benefits; you will lead your life seeking better food options, and letting other people know how they too can benefit from a simple mindset shift. I encourage you to start your clean eating journey today.  Don’t wait for a date or a challenge, just do it!
