In the past few weeks, I have asked several of my customers if they’re paying for disease or paying for health. Many of them have really leaned into the question where they really start questioning their daily choices. I come across many well-intentioned people that believe they can easily make tweaks to their diet. That is, until they are faced with making changes.
The Problem
Once I share some advice on what they might consider eating based on their metabolic dysfunction, the majority of people are very motivated (at the beginning). Then I start to see ‘cracks’ (excuses) about two weeks into their clean eating journey. Oone of the main cracks/excuses is the coice to eat at a restaurant, and not knowing what to order.
When this happens, I ask them directly, “so you went out and you paid for disease?”. When asked, most of the people have never considered that their choice was contributing to the metabolic dysfunction that led them to me and the store in the first place. Once we take a deeper dive into the reasons they went out to a restaurant and ordered the ‘normal’ food they’ve always ordered, or went for a ‘salad’ thinking they were doing better. They realize they’re making excuses and that the journey that is clean eating is not a straight line. Clean eating can be very challenging, and that’s okay!
When I see people in my store, they are usually suffering from some inflammatory or pathogenic condition that has progressed into a variety of autoimmune, and/or cancer conditions. So, the ‘whispers’ their body was relaying, years prior, were mostly ignored, until their body starts to ‘scream’. The body is screaming when you’re in the hospital with a bout of diverticulitis, appendicitis, or any other “ITIS”. Or when your blood work comes back showing type 2 diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, etc. The ‘right’ foods won’t cure 100% of the issues. But it will contribute to how your disease progresses and how your body will heal during treatment.
Your Choice
Now, I ask you, are you paying for disease or are you paying for health? Is your body whispering to you, but the burrito at your favorite taco shop is too tempting, or the overpriced, sugar filled coffee drink is too irresistible? Those choices are contributing to metabolic dysfunction, whether you know it or not. Unfortunately, most people will not heed the warning until their body starts to scream. The choice is yours, will you read this, heed the warning and pay for health, or will you read this, ignore it, and think disease will never happen to you because you think and feel like you’re healthy?
